RPM / TORQUE
Engineering
RPM or revolutions per minute is the speed of which the engine is turning. Having a higher RPM will aid in acceleration and the speed of the car as well as producing a higher pitched exhaust note.
Torque put simply, is the measurement of a cars ability to perform, this means the more torque you have the more power your car's engine can produce. Torque will also aid your cars acceleration at low RPM.

Art
RPM and torque are definitely highlighted when you look at the power map of the WRX Impreza '98.
The blue line indicates the maximised RPM and torque, and shows a nice linear line with a pointed peak. Whereas the grey line shows the minimal RPM and torque the car can have if down tuned. The grey lines peak is very flat and doesn't have a linear line of acceleration as well as dropping drastically in the higher RPM ranges. |
